Today in class we discussed how this book seems to be a combination of Brave New World and 1984 because of how the characters are created to live a certain life and they do not interact socially. The characters cannot say what they want and they cannot interact with others freely. We also discussed how the characters are "predestined" because they have special jobs and lives to life. My personal thought is that the leaders are trying to protect the people from the way society used to be because of how it was destroyed. I think that they are being over protective by only slowly letting out the inventions that are not really new. They are new to the people but to the leaders they know the truth. They are afraid technology would only detroy what they are trying to recreate.

Our discussion in class was about how Equality talked to the girl and that they both felt the same way about each other. They were both pretty daring to take the risk like that to talk to each other. They both had made up nicknames for each other without the other knowing. We think that this represents how humans are really alike even when we think that we are individuals. The characters are all alike yet the main character wants to be different. However, the main character is alike the girl because they think the same way. It seems that the guy is learning how to make electricity with the metals when he is down in his hole. This hole also seems to be like a subway.

Today we finished the book and we discussed the ending. In our discussion we talked about how brave it was for the main character to break away from society and the ways he knew. Also how the girl left right after she found out shows that a bond can still form even when society does not want one to. She had a true devotion to this man whom she did not know anything about. However, we realized that the people do not really even know much about themselves. Their running away really helped them to discover their wants and needs in life. We also talked about how important the word I really is and how it can make a person see life so differently. At the very end of the book the word ego was written and we did not really understand this. We found out that the word ego is Latin for I. We found this very interesting but we did not understand the signifigance of it being in Latin.
